Restaurants

We are very lucky to live in an area that has an abundance of some great places to eat, whether you want to walk across the Sissinghurst estate for a pub lunch in one of the oldest pubs in the area or take a ride out to have lunch on a terrace with a view over a local vineyard to sample some of their award winning English wines or maybe even a special intimate supper at one of two michelin restaurant less than 10 minutes away.

Some of our suggestions......

Our village pub in Sissinghurst has now re opened under new management. Guests can walk across the estate into the village of Sissinghurst. The Milk House offers a simple menu sourced from local producers. It has alovely aspect in the centre of the village with views across hop fields and The Weald. We are delighted to be able to send guests into the village.

The Swan at Chapel Down  serves a great value locally sourced English menu obvioulsy all washed down with the award winning wines from Chapel Down. Chapel Down is about 20 minutes away opposite Small Hythe Place on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Tenterden. For a an interesting day out why not enjoy a tour and tasting at the vinesyard followed by lunch in the restaurant.

The Bull at Benenden          Tel: 01580  240054

This is one of our favourite local pubs , it has a great atmosphere and is situated on the edge of the village green in Benenden. Mark and Lucy serve good pub food which is sourced locally and offer a very good selection of local wines and beers.

Benenden is about a 10 minute drive from The Farmhouse.

Open daily but no food served on Sunday evenings

Mark and Lucy have a second pub in Hawkhurst; The Black Pig specialising in Kent and Sussex Ales, Cider, Lagers and Wine

The Balck Pig Tel 01580 752306

The Vine , Goudhurst TN17  1AG  Tel: 01580 211753

Another fine Kentish pub serving local food and drink .This early 17th Century building in the village of Goudhurst has been  restored to a cosy and welcoming pub and restaurant serving modern British food along with traditional bar snacks. Frazer and I have visited The Vine several times during the winter months and would really recommend it, the staff are very helpful and the management have taken a lot of care with sourcing their food and drink i know they have sent all the staff to Chapel Down to see how the wine is made and also to Park Farm in Hawkhurst to visit the farm from where the meat is supplied.

The West House, Biddenden TN27 8AH Tel: 01580 291341

Biddenden the next village to Sissinghurst is home to a small, family run restaurant  with a Michelin star. The West House is a 15th Century weaver's cottage now owned and run as a restaurant by Graham Garrett and Jackie Hewitt. Reservations a must and a few weeks ahead in the summer months.
